Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinks Manchester United played well in their 2-0 loss to Arsenal over the weekend as their opponents leapfrogged them in the Premier League standings.

Goals from Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the Gunners all three points but the Red Devils had a number of good chances of their own to change the complexion of the match.

And the Norwegian reckons it was a “strange” result and thought United deserved a lot more out of the match.

“You’re always measured on results but we played a good game against Arsenal, played so much worse and won games,” Solskjaer told reporters.

“And that’s the strange thing when you’re a manager you can look behind the result and say that was a good performance didn’t get what we deserved… it’s so strange.

“The Arsenal one, very disappointed in the result it hurts more than anything. But we can’t look at the performance and say we were s**t because we weren’t, to be honest and blunt, we weren’t, we played well.”

On how he has found the first three months as caretaker boss, Solskjaer added: We’ve done well of course we’ve given ourselves to be in and amongst top four, we’re in Cup quarter-finals both in FA Cup and Champions League.

“We’ve been on a good run now the not squeaky bum time like the gaffer used to say but it tightens up and April and May at Manchester United we narrow the focus and it’s now about winning trophies, make use of the squad, it’s always been able made we’ve done that.”
