Kenyatta assures of Kenya’s committed to scaling up environmental and climate action

President Kenyatta has today assured delegates at the One Planet Summit of Kenya’s commitment in scaling up environmental and Climate Action.

He pledged that Kenya will increase her forest cover to 10% by 2022 to ensure the country plays her part as a member of the global community.

Kenyatta said investment in sustainable management and conservation of forests is one of the most effective interventions to combat climate change. He said Kenya’s forestry sector is a key investment sector to realize sustainable development goals

This was during the opening of the 4th session of the UN Environment Assembly and the One planet summit.

The summit seeks to highlight Africa’s role as a global partner facing both challenges & opportunities in innovative solutions for adaptation & resilience against climate change.

Uhuru also made it known that his administration has set clear targets through the National Green Growth Strategy in order to achieve global sustainable development goals.

Delegates attending One Planet Summit challenged Governments to be more efficient and give the private sector incentives for partnership to address climate change. President

Kenyatta said that the government has enacted a Public Private Partnership legislation that supports engagement of the private sector in public programmes.

The head of state believes that the partnerships between communities and the private sector will enhance the sustainable management of our forests

He noted that Kenya is working hard to do her part in the preservation and conservation of forest resources, as the safe and best pathway for the survival of humanity and life as we know it.

He also urged nations to pull together as  members of  One Planet with a common sense of purpose.

The head of state expressed  his delight that world leaders and other stakeholders came together in Nairobi to deliberate on sustainable solutions concerning the health and sustainability of forests
