On the final day of the January’s transfer window, the Denis Suarez saga was finally over. The midfielder extended his stay at Barcelona until 2021, however, he would spend the remainder of the current, 2018/2019 season on loan at Arsenal. The Gunners would have to pay around £20m if they want to sign him on a permanent deal.
However, it doesn’t seem to be case. Since his Arsenal arrival, Denis has only capped 85 minutes of playing time in five matches across both Premier League and Europa League. His last appearance was the 20-minute cameo in the 5-1 Bournemouth win on 27 February. The midfielder hasn’t managed to provide a single assist either.
Denis was an unused substitute in Arsenal’s most recent sensational Europa League 3-1 away loss to Rennes. The Gunners opened the scoring but succumbed to a surprising defeat following the early dismissal of Sokratis. Perhaps, the change of the plan didn’t allow ex-Blaugrana to enter the pitch.
The Arsenal fans, meanwhile, are not amused by Denis’ arrival. They started a violent campaign against him on social networks. He is labelled as ‘the most pointless signing‘ while his time at the Emirates is described as ‘work experience‘. It would be difficult for the former Barca star to prove his worth for the Gunners if his playing time keeps being limited.
