Meet a United Legend Who Believes Ole Gunnar is Stupid

While everyone offers praise to caretaker manager, there are traces of people who are very critical of him and his style of management

According to Gary Neville in the wake of United’s Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain.

The Red Devils recovered from 2-0 down from the first leg to win the second leg 3-1 and progress to the quarter-finals via away goals.

In remarkable scenes, Marcus Rashford scored a 94th minute penalty that was awarded with VAR assistance to secure an unforgettable night for United.

Solskjaer has now won 14 of 17 matches as caretaker boss at Old Trafford, losing just once.

The Norwegian is the stand-out favourite to land the long-term job having overseen a remarkable turnaround in the club’s fortunes since taking over from Jose Mourinho in December.

And Neville insists Solskjaer’s achievements are both “stupid” and “mad”.

The former United defender, who was a team-mate of Solskjaer’s, told beIN SPORTS: “I said they couldn’t win tonight, I said they can’t win the Champions League before the first leg.

“He’s proving me wrong, I’m going to carry on and keep saying no, they can’t win it! I want them to get to the final.

“They’re doing stupid things. What Ole’s doing is stupid, it’s mad. What’s happened in the last three months is incredible.

“You’ve never seen a bounce like it in your life. The fans are absolutely bouncing into every match.

“That’s what Man United fans want, it’s what the club needs. It’s been difficult for four, five, six, seven years and this just feels like a honeymoon.”

And Neville offered Solskjaer particular credit for the spirit he has restored among United’s squad, with a toxic and miserable atmosphere having soured the final months of Mourinho’s tenure.

“I’ve never been so wrong! I can’t believe what’s just happened, I really can’t,” Neville added.

“The spirit that he’s injected into the team, the club, the way in which the players are responding to him… He didn’t even have his best side by a long way tonight, he had five or six young players on the pitch.

“It was absolutely incredible. Yes of course PSG made mistakes and they got nervous. It happened last year against Real Madrid, it’s happened again tonight for them. But United had a game-plan.

“Yesterday when Ole was telling us about his game-plan I thought, ‘Well he’s just got to say those things!’ But he was positive, he never pointed towards injuries or excuses.

“He’s got those players absolutely believing in him and trusting in him. I can’t believe what I’ve just seen out there.

“United are not the finished article, I still think PSG made huge mistakes and that’s contributed to what’s happened.

“But United have got something going with Solskjaer. We’ve talked to [Romelu] Lukaku, to Ashley Young, and every one of them talks about the belief they now have.”
