Nairobi County’s strict rules to outdoor advertising firms

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued strict rules to outdoor advertising firms as a reminder of the requirements they should meet.

This comes in line with the ongoing operations to remove all illegal billboards along the county highways.

The Governor warned that action will be taken to advertisers who have not complied with the Signage Control and Regulation Law.

Sonko maintains that they will have their billboards brought down, as well as advertisers who have erected billboards in illegal areas.

Here is the list of rules /guidelines that outdoor advertising firms should comply with

1. No one shall erect any advertising structure within the county without first seeking and being granted approval by the Nairobi City County Government.

2. Every billboard and outdoor advertising structures must be well branded so that the owner is easily identified, failure to which such structures shall be removed.

3. All billboards should not exceed the maximum dimension of 10 by 12 meters.

4. Companies with approval to erect single-sided billboards cannot convert them to become double-sided billboards without first seeking and obtaining approval from the County Government.

5. All billboards and advertising structure owners must declare the exact number of all their structures, as well as the monthly occupancy and settle their dues to the county government by the 10th of every month. Any failure to do amounts to an attempt to conceal information for the purpose of evading to pay county revenue.
