Kenyan rapper releases a Sh.180,000 worth song

The youngest female rapper in Kenya, Wangeci, has disclosed how she came to release her hit song, ‘Sana Sana’. For a month, she has been dropping a song every Sunday which have been like a mini album. In an interview, asked on how she work on her tracks, she said that as a rapper she write after a beat.

The new song was written in 2017 and she finally decided to record it in 2018 and release it in 2019. In breaking down the cost of the new jam she said; ” From studio time to making beats, that cost me 20,000.

Shooting of the video cost me 130,000 which is the heaviest part of making a song. Pushing the song because marketing is very important I used 15,000 and then moving from one radio station to another and back home I think I can put 5,000 so a total of Ksh 180,000.”

Wangechi said she bought her own equipment so all she needs to make a video is lights and the director. The rapper doesn’t have to pay the director because she rents out her equipment to him and other Corporate  companies; ”I own the equipment i use for the video shoots, so i don’t need to pay Director’s fee because i rent them out. which includes lenses.”
