Maurizio Sarri reveals what Jorginho needs at Chelsea team to gel

Jorginho

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri believes Jorginho will flourish once his team-mates become more accustomed to his manager’s possession-based ‘Sarri-ball’ philosophy.

Jorginho joined the Blues in a £57m move last summer, following Sarri from Napoli, but has struggled to win over the support at Stamford Bridge since his arrival in English football.

The Italy international was booed by Chelsea fans when coming on as a substitute in the recent win over Malmo and he also missed a penalty in the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

Sarri has backed Jorginho to prove his doubters wrong this season and believes it is only a matter of time before the midfielder produces the form he showed in Naples.

“Jorginho has a very strong character, a very strong personality,” said Sarri, ahead of Sunday’s trip to Fulham.

The Italy international has faced criticism from fans this season

“So I can believe that he has no problem to play under pressure. I think that he played very well in the last match (against Tottenham), better in the second half than in the first half.

“For him, it’s very important to finish the match in that way. I think that he can do better. But he needs all the team to understand very well our way of football.”

Sarri has come under scrutiny this season, with his side currently five points off the Champions League places, but the Italian insists he felt more pressure during his time in charge of Napoli.

“The pressure is inside,” he said. “I felt big pressure in Serie C, and very little sometimes in the Champions League. It’s really very important your feeling at the moment.
