Raheem Sterling on why Liverpool didn’t win the Premier League in 2014

After such a long wait, the 2013/14 season finally looked to be Liverpool’s year.

They were dominating teams with Luis Suarez finishing the season with a staggering 31 goals.

However, in the final few games of the campaign, it would all fall apart for Liverpool.

It began vs Chelsea with that infamous Steven Gerrard slipped that allowed Demba Ba to run on to the ball and make it 1-0.

Brendan Rodger’s side went on to lose that game 2-0 and would then somehow draw their next game 3-3 with Crystal Palace, despite being 3-0 up.

After ‘bottling’ the league in 2014 to Manchester City, now City star Raheem Sterling has opened up on why he thinks Liverpool lost the title race.

“When I was there I did feel a lot more pressure than when I’m here, with matchdays and the fans. I think that they get to us a little bit.

“We were in control and we had the opportunity to see it through but we didn’t do that.” As quoted by the Metro.

Sterling went on to explain the difference between being at Liverpool and City:

“Here we’re completely focused on each game and trying to win each game as it comes.

It’s a completely different scenario from last year – last year we were a bit more comfortable towards this point of the season.

“They’ve been playing some good football at times but we’re confident in ourselves and we’ve got the belief.” As quoted by the Metro.

Sterling finds himself in a very similar situation this season, on the opposite team, of course.

After 28 league games, Manchester City are 2nd in the Premier Leauge just one point behind Liverpool.

City have a much better goal difference than Liverpool but they have lost three more games.

Both teams are in action this weekend. Man City are facing Bournemouth while Liverpool take on Everton.
