Five men have been charged for robbing an M-Pesa shop in Nairobi.

Collins Juma Oduor, Moses Okiori Nyarianga, Kevin Opiyo Onyango, Marcus Odhiambo, and Samwel Wanyoike Njeri are said to have committed the crime on February 26, 2019, at around 8 pm.

The court heard that the men caused a stir in the CBD when they threw a grenade at police officers who were on patrol at the 20/30 stage, before escaping on a motorbike. Luckily it never detonated.

Police managed to apprehend the five while the rest escaped. Flash disks and mobile phones were recovered from the accused.

In a sworn affidavit, the officer investigating the matter asked for more days to enable him conduct an identification parade, take flash disks and phones for forensic analysis as well as arrest more suspects who are still at large.

He also stated that more time was needed to recover firearms used by the accused, liaise with NTSA to get details of the owner of the motorcycle used by the accused and have the recovered grenade taken for ballistic analysis.
