Pochettino gives Jan Vertonghen update before Arsenal

Tottenham and Arsenal will go head-to-head this weekend in the second North London derby of the season.

Spurs will be hoping to avoid a similar result to last time as they lost 4-2 and had a man sent off in this fixture earlier this campaign.

Tottenham, however, head into this game in somewhat poor form.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side would lose 2-1 to Burnley this past weekend.

Then, on Wednesday evening they were beaten 2-0 by an out of form Chelsea side.

Tottenham are now nine points behind league leaders Liverpool with their title hopes all but gone.

As for Arsenal, they are now 4th in the Premier League and have won four of their last five league outings.

The Gunners are also closing in on 3rd place Spurs with the gap between the two sides just four points.

Jan Vertonghen injury update
As a result, Spurs will be desperate for a win on Sunday.

Heading into the game Tottenham have one big injury doubt in Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian missed the midweek defeat to Chelsea due to a hip problem.

Luckily for Spurs fans, Pochettino confirmed it does not appear to be a serious problem and Vertonghen will hopefully be back for the derby:

“Yesterday [Tuesday] he felt a problem with his hip, so he’s not available.

“Hopefully, it’s not a big issue and he can be available for the next game.”
