The Wednesday Battle of the Bridge clash between Chelsea and Tottenham was a must-win game for Maurizio Sarri.

The Blues are in sixth place in a month that has been rather ‘eventful and tragic’ in equal measure-the 6-0 loss to Manchester City, the Sarr-Kepa incident and even the eventual loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

They headed into the match three points behind 4th place Arsenal.

However, Chelsea have a game in hand on both Arsenal and 5th place Manchester United.

So, they could climb back into the top four if they win their extra match.

That is easier said than done though given Chelsea’s recent poor form.

Chelsea have lost three of their last five Premier League outings and they also lost the League Cup final on Sunday.

As a result, pressure is continuing to mount on Sarri.

Despite this, prior to facing Spurs, Eden Hazard has spoken out about Chelsea’s recent struggles.

Hazard has stated that the Chelsea squad are fully behind Maurizio Sarri and are playing for him:

“‘We are all with the manager. I know this month was a bit hard but we need to be together, stay together, if we want to do something at the end of the season.

“We will win games and that’s it. We are there. This is a hard game but we can close the gap a bit on Tottenham. We have the potential to be in the top four but we don’t have to think about that.

“We just have to think game after game and try to win one more game. We are playing for him [Sarri], the club, the fans and us. It’s not just about the manager.

“He puts the players on the pitch and then it’s down to the players to take responsibility. On Sunday we played a fantastic game, we need to look at that and try to repeat it. Then the manager will be happy.”As quoted by Chelsea’s official website.
