Family of departed athletics legend Maiyoro announce burial date

The late legendary athlete Nyantika Maiyoro who passed on Saturday will be laid to rest on March 8 at his rural home in Nyaribari-Kiogoro in Kisii County.

Maiyoro who was the first athlete to represent Kenya in Olympic Games died aged 88 at a Kisii hospital after succumbing to Tuberculosis

Maiyoro participated at the 1954 commonwealth games, the first major international championships that Kenya participated in. He was fourth in the three miles race.

According to his son Kennedy Nyantika, the deceased body will be moved from the morgue on Thursday,  March 7 and will make stop-overs at Isoge settlement scheme and Gusii Stadium before heading home.

Nyantika said the burial arrangements are progressing well and that the family is working closely with friends in order to accord the legend a befitting send-off.
