95-year-old grandmother was allegedly raped, murdered and her body doused with acid in Raiyani village in Githunguri, Kiambu county.
Peninah Njoki, had gone missing after attending a church service only for her lifeless body to be found several hours later dumped by the riverside not far from her home.
Reports reveal that Njoki’s body was discovered by a child who spotted the grandma lying still near the river and then started screaming, prompting area residents to rush to the scene.
“I heard someone screaming from the direction of the river and decided to go there and find out what was going on. When I got there, I found other women gathering. They told me it was about my mother …There is nothing I could do because she was dead,” bereaved daughter-in-law, Edith Njeri, narrated.
Njeri stated that, the mother-in-law had scratches on her backside and face and they strongly believed she was sexually assaulted before she was murdered.
The family also came to the conclusion that Njoki’s body was doused with acid because her light-skin had turned completely dark.
The body of the late grandma, who many described as a kind and loving person, was collected and moved to the mortuary by the police.
No one had been arrested as of February 25 even as the family waited for postmortem and hoped that Njoki’s killers would be found.
