Moi university’s acting vice chancellor, Professor Laban Ayiro took charge in 2016 and conducted his first oration flanked by fellow dons. Professor Ayiro presented his vision for Moi University in a presentation titled, “rebranding moi university “.
However during his appointment, it emerged that Prof. Laban Ayiro presence as the Moi university Vice chancellor was an alleged plot by corrupt cartels to cover up a huge laptop tender scandal.
Addressing the residents of Eldoret town, MP Alfred Keter said, “Some cartels swindled a huge amount of money meant for laptop tender which was secured by Moi University and a South African based company. Now they are working very hard to conceal the scandal.’’
Keter stated that he will not allow corrupt cartels to change the leadership of Moi University for their selfish interests. According to him the government had budgeted Ksh.17 billion for the procurement of laptops to complement the computer literacy program me.
Prof Ayiro headed Moi University on acting basis from September 2016 to March 2018. Before his elevation at Moi, he was the acting deputy vice chancellor in charge of planning.
Daystar University has since appointed Prof Laban Ayiro as the vice chancellor effective from March 1 2019.
