Implementation of new market policies to boost trade in Mombasa County

Mombasa County has began a complete clean-up exercise of Kongowea market as they implement the new market policies.

The cleaning exercise comes days after the Chief Executive Committee Member in Charge of Trade, Tourism and Investment Mr Rashid revealed the County’s plan refurbish the market

Kongowea Market is the largest marketplace in the County Government of Mombasa where thousands of people from all walks of life make their living from it each passing day. It’s one of our strategic economic assets .

The Department of Trade, Tourism & Investment recognizes the need for a conducive environment upon which traders can operate and thrive.

The Implementation of these new policies will turn the city into a flourishing economy and will enable traders to have a conducive working environment and promote their sales.

Other efforts made by the Governor Ali Hassan Joho is his intention to create a free trade zone in Mombasa.

In order to benefit the traders, the Governor has already initiated the conversation with the Kenya Revenue Authority.

Joho also added that he will engage other national government agencies in realizing the project which is anchored in the Mombasa Vision 2035.
