Manchester United get mixed news on Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard injuries

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard came off injured in Man Utd’s Champions League tie vs PSG and Chelsea and Liverpool are the next fixtures.

Manchester United duo Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial’s injuries are not serious but they are likely to miss the FA Cup fifth round tie at Chelsea.

Lingard and Martial were forced off with muscle injuries before the second-half of United’s Champions League round-of-16 first leg defeat to Paris Saint-German at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Sources have told the MEN their injuries are not long-term but both could be unavailable for the Chelsea tie at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

It is understood United are also concerned that if they were to rush Lingard and Martial back, they could aggravate their muscle problems and the pair are doubts for the visit of Liverpool on February 25.

“Jesse and Anthony give us something, let’s hope they’re not too serious,” caretaker coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said of their injuries in midweek. “They’re muscle injuries, so we’ll just have to wait a couple of days.”

Lingard’s and Martial’s possible absences for Chelsea and Liverpool have come at the worst possible time for Solskjaer, whose reserve attackers have struggled to perform recently.

Romelu Lukaku has not scored in six weeks while Alexis Sanchez has managed just one goal and was widely criticised for his second-half performance against PSG. Juan Mata has also failed to distinguish himself in his five starts under Solskjaer.
