The Council of Governors say 19 counties, including Nairobi have been served with strike notices but the nurses are yet to down tools due to ongoing negotiations, while 18 others are yet to receive the notices.
Most affected counties are Kisumu, Kisii, Taita Taveta, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kirinyaga among others where only emergency cases are handled.
Nurses under the National Government have also joined in the strike affecting public health institutions like Mathari hospital, Spinal Injury, Blood Bank and Airport here in Nairobi.
According to Kenya National Union for Nurses Secretary General Seth Panyako, Machakos, Vihiga, Nairobi, Mombasa and Migori are the only counties that have paid nurses their allowances.
