How Uhuru’s name is being dragged in referendum calls

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been the center of the latest calls for referendum. Can we in any way assume that he is sponsoring the calls for referendum for his own personal interests?

In a span of less than 48 hours President Uhuru Kenyatta has been the key name in the driving force for the push for a constitutional reform which is with no doubt looming.

On Friday, during Ukambani forum led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted for a formation of a major Coalition which will bring together Nasa, Wiper and Jubilee with a Prime Minister at the helm of the power. This agenda was silently pushing for President Uhuru Kenyatta to gain that post.

But the same tone has been echoed by Uthamaki leaders led by Maina Kamanda.

Several political leaders from Mt. Kenya have formed a group to further solidify President Uhuru Kenyatta’s support in the region.

Nominated MP Maina Kamanda said the Mt. Kenya and Diaspora Leadership Forum agenda is to support the President to complete his development agenda for the country.

The forum incorporates leaders in and out of elective positions including former presidential candidates Peter Kenneth and Martha Karua.

In Murang’a, Mathioya MP Peter Kimari and his Kigumo counterpart Ruth Mwaniki have also joined the group.

Speaking during a church service at Njau-ini ACC and S church in Kangari on Sunday, Kamanda said the group will start going around the region to recruit more members.

He said it is paramount for local leaders to support the President accomplish his developmental goals before the end of his term.

Kamanda also recommended the inclusion of the Prime Minister seat in the Constitution during the referendum.

“Let the question be incorporated in the referendum and Kenyans will decide what they want,” the MP said.

He said the seat will help the President further unite the country and reduce the chaos that follows elections as more regions will be included in the government.

His sentiments were echoed by former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru who said the leadership forum will help bring together leaders in the region.

“Previously, most of us were marked because we were able to bring people in the Mt. Kenya region together,” he said.
