Red Devils’ interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t been short of gushing admirers after steering Manchester United out of the Mourinho maelstrom to produce a stunning 10-match unbeaten run.

His former teammate Jordi Cruyff has provided his own opinion as to why Solskjaer has been such a success at his old club, whilst producing comments that could well be taken as sly digs at OGS’ predecessor, the prickly Portuguese.

“Normally, players who have been at the club understand the DNA. [Pep] Guardiola was at Barcelona B, came to the first team, knew what was necessary and the results are obvious,’ Cruyff said in an interview with The Times.

“In Ole’s case, he has let the players take responsibility. He’s peaceful. He’s not making conflicts in the media, saying something to see if he can motivate the player in a provocative way.”

Mourinho was, of course, notorious for his aggressive interviews and rebuttals to criticism from the media, something which was seemingly pivotal in his downfall and now stands in marked contrast to his more approachable and affable successor at Old Trafford.
