They say once beaten twice shy but this advice is not for talented politicians known to run as many times as they can just to clench their desired power.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared 11 candidates to run for Embakasi South parliamentary seat by-election scheduled for April 5.

Among those hoping to occupy the vacant seat is the owner of demolished Taj Mall Rameshchandra Gorasia who will be flying Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) party flag.

Rameshchandra Govind Gorasia.

Gorasia got appointed the acting leader of the National Vision Party of Kenya to fill the void left by the later Nicholas Biwott last year. He joined the party after ditching Kanu.

During the last election, Gorasia ran unsuccessfully for Nairobi senator on the ANC ticket.

“The vision party has a great vision to help Kenyans,” Gorasia said. “There’s no opposition in Kenya as the handshake has diluted everything. It’s time for our party to take over this mandate to prevent the country from some injustices.”

Secretary general Marere wa Mwachai said they have seen leadership quality in Gorasia. He expressed confidence that the new leader will deliver on his mandate to members and the entire country.

The Embakasi south seat fell vacant after the Court of Appeal in Nairobi nullified the election of Julius Mawathe Musili of Wiper party following a successful petition by former MP Irshad Sumra.

In his petition, the former MP accused the electoral body of siding with his competitor thus declaring him a winner using unverifiable results.

Mawathe was declared the winner of the Tuesday, August 8, General Election with 33,880 against Sumra’s 33,708 votes. Despite Wiper and ODM being coalition partners in the National Super Alliance, the former has warned of a grueling battle to recapture the seat as it seeks to stamp its authority in city politics.
