PHOTOS: First Lady shows her energetic side ahead of the beyond zero marathon

Kenyan First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has today gone all the way out to  show her way of preparing for the Beyond Zero Marathon.

Margaret Kenyatta today spared time to train and  take part in physical exercise saying that getting ready for a marathon begins with physical preparation.

She also urged Kenyans to join her in this course to get in shape today and join the marathon team on the 10th of March for the 2019.

The First Lady has been active in this course since the inaugural marathon which was held in March 2014 followed by two other successful events in 2015 and 2016 before taking a two year break.

Yesterday, Margaret Kenyatta received over Sh 163 million from local corporates in support of this year’s Beyond Zero Marathon.

The First Lady also received additional support of 50 laptops from Chinese firm Huawei, to support healthcare delivery through the Medical Safaris

She noted that the Beyond Zero initiatives, including Medical Safaris, have had a huge impact on health delivery to vulnerable populations.

PSCU reports that all the Chief Executives Officers and team leaders of the 20 corporate donors affirmed their support for Beyond Zero’s healthcare initiatives, especially on maternal and child health. They also pledged to mobilize their employees to take part in the forthcoming marathon. 

The corporate donors included the Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) whose team, led by chief executive officer Jeremy Ikindu Nguze, gave Sh 30 million while the Co-operative Bank Group Managing Director/CEO Dr. Gideon Muriuki and his team brought   Sh 20 million. 

Kenya Commercial Bank’s  CEO Joshua Oigara led his team in donating Sh 20 million. MediaMax, Kass, Nation Group, Capital FM and the Standard group represented the media fraternity with their donations of Sh 25 million, Sh 20 million, Sh 10 million, Sh 12 million and  Sh 5 million respectively. Royal Media Services presented the First Lady with an Open Cheque.

Towards the end of last year, the First Lady kicked off the momentum towards the forthcoming marathon by registering as its first participant and receiving a new certificate changing the name of the event.

The spouses of Deputy President William Ruto and former PM Raila Odinga Mrs Rachel Ruto and Ida Odinga respectively also signed up to participate in the event.
