Bungoma politician David Barasa storms police station, assaults female officer

Bungoma County Assembly member cum musician has been arraigned in court for assaulting a female police officer.

Kimilili Ward MCA, David Barasa, alias Webuye Jua Kali was arraigned in a Kimilili law court after he was arrested at the Kimilili police station.

The Ward leader together with his driver denied the charges before Kimilili Resident Magistrate Israel Ruhu. however, the two were released on a KSh 50,000 cash bail each.

Barasa was arrested after he stormed the police station demanding for the release of two youths who had been arrested by police officers.

They had been arrested on the night of Monday, February 4, for drinking alcohol past the recommended time. Barasa was also charged with causing disturbance and damaging a police table worth KSh 10,000.

The case will be mentioned on Thursday, February 14, and later heard on March 14, 2019. The injured police officer identified as Constable Njoki was treated at Kimilili Sub-county hospital.
