HBO has announced the filming date to Game of Thrones prequel starring Naomi Watts. This update comes from HBO president Casey Bloys who revealed that the yet untitled television show project will begin filming in early summer.
While the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones has yet to be released, work has commenced on its prequel show.
Casey Bloys told reporters that they believed the project will be underway by mid this year.
A statement from HBO revealed that the premiere episode will be directed by SJ Clarkson best known for Jessica Jones.
The cast of the prequel series told the reporters that the series will take place thousands of years prior to the events in Game of Thrones.
Even though the filming of the prequel will begin relatively soon, Casey had earlier confirmed that the series will not be aired until at least a year after the completion of the main series.
Should the prequel be green-lit, and we pray it does, we could be watching the prequel in 2020 or 2021.
The script has been developed by George RR Martin and Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class) with the latter acting as the show runner.
In part, the official synopsis reads, “Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.”
“And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”
