Embu man in custody for allegedly defiling a class 3 school girl

A 35-year-old man was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly defiling a 9-year old girl in Embu County.

Confirming the arrest, Assistant County Commissioner Manyatta Division Fredrick Kimani said the suspect, David Rugendo Karuri was arrested in Kianjokoma market where he was hiding after committing the act.

The senior officer said that one of the minor’s teacher noticed something was wrong with the girl and approached her and that was when she said what had happened to her in the hands of her alleged attacker.

The teacher then alerted the police who traced and arrested the man who is set to be arraigned to face defilement charges.

Mr. Kimani said rape cases are on the rise within the area and that the government will not allow and tolerate seeing minors being abused. He also called on the residents to speak out and help the police arrest rapists.

He further warned parents who try to settle issues of defilement at family level will be viewed as accomplices and be prosecuted together with the suspects. The girl is recuperating at the Embu Level V hospital.
