After the Dusit attack, a huge debate was generated over how the media covered the incident.

The decision of a number of US and European outlets – including the UK’s MailOnline and Germany’s Bild – to some photographs was instantly condemned on Kenyan social media. For instance the picture of the dead men slumped over the tables in the Nairobi restaurant where they had been been published.

The New York Times came in for the most criticism. The newspaper, angry users said, was using the “misery and tragedy” of Tuesday’s terror attack on the Dusit hotel for clickbait.

What’s more, the speed with which the picture was published meant many were still unaware their loved ones had been caught up in the attack.

Now singer Akon has stepped in to give advise to Africa and our media houses.

“In Africa When something happens the press is quick to put out negative energy, story and then that story goes on to internet then other broadcasts take it and they post it so when you look at places like Kenya for instance, there two terrorists attack was everywhere, so now people are afraid to go to Kenya because somebody shot up the mall. But then if you look online there was over 25,000 attacks in the US that people don’t even know about but you only know about five or six.”

Akon’s career has evolved gracefully over the years, with the veteran singer placing a strong focus on his philanthropic efforts and business endeavors in recent years.

After recently launching his own cryptocurrency Akoin and helping bring electricity to hundreds of communities in 15 countries in Africa, Akon now reportedly has his eye on the US presidency.

During a recent interview with Newsweek, the entertainer revealed that he’s been thinking about running for office in the 2020 election.
