Man Utd miss out a chance for their no.1 Defender target, settles to Arsenal

Reims centre-half Bjorn Engels “dreams” of a move to Arsenal, but has ruled out joining Manchester United.

Engels has spent the first half of the season on loan with newly-promoted Ligue Un side Reims, who are faring well in mid-table with the fourth-best defensive record in France’s top flight.

The 24-year-old is yet to earn an international cap for Belgium, but was linked with Arsenal, Fulham and Stoke before his move to Olympiakos in summer 2017.

He says joining Arsenal “would be a dream” if he continues to develop, but says he will “never” sign for United.

“Not right now, but if my level continues to rise, it will come,” he told L’Equipe.

“I’ve been there a couple of times in the past, maybe next time is the right one. Arsenal? It would be a dream. But playing in England, it would be already top.”

Engels added that his wife would rather he join a different Premier League side, while ruling one out.

“She’s from Liverpool and all her family is a fan of the Reds,” he said.

“When Everton was interested in me, she said to me laughing: Everton is OK, but never Man United!”
