News just in is that there was an explosion at the luxurious Dusit D2 Hotel, which is located along Riverside Drive in the Posh Westlands Estate. The hotel is in a strategic location and is surrounded by several offices and the Nairobi University Chiromo campus.
According to Investigative journalist John Allan Namu, there are several people trapped in the hotel. Pictures on local TV stations have shown the injured being evacuated by the Redcross team from the surrounding buildings.
It is not yet clear if it was a terror attack or something different. John Allan Namu says that they started hearing gunshots from around 2:30PM.
“According to eyewitnesses, people who were driving that Toyota car gained access to the hotel and opened fire.” The journalist said through a video posted on social media.
It is believed that the assailants bombed two cars at the gates of the hotel. The elite Special GSU unit RECCE Squad are already at the scene and trying to evacuate people.
