Why Manchester United boss is thanking Ronaldo

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has lauded Cristiano Ronaldo for having an impact on Marcus Rashford after he claimed that his forward must have been watching the Juventus talisman’s freekicks.

United were held by Newcastle United for long periods of the game but in the 64th minute, Rashford’s freekick led to Romelu Lukaku opening the scoring after Dubravka spilled the freekick for the Belgian to tap home.

Rashford also scored a sublime free kick in the 5-1 win over Cardiff City to put United ahead after just three minutes.

Speaking in a press conference after the 2-0 win over Newcastle United, Solskjaer heaped praise on Rashford and thanked Ronaldo for having an impact on him.

“But when you’re a striker like he is, scored such a great goal like today, calm composed, just passes it past the goalkeeper. But his free-kicks, that was the start against Cardiff, and then he does it again, he’s got a great hit. He must have been watching Cristiano when he was practicing.”
