Unai Emery: Why I pulled off Ozil

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has revealed he subbed Mesut Ozil at half-time due to a tactical decision during his side’s 1-1 draw with Brighton on Wednesday 26th.

Ozil retained his position after impressing during 3-1 win over Burnley over the weekend but was sacrificed just after half-time against Brighton.

The Gunners took an early lead through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but Brighton restored parity through Jurgen Locadia who capitalized on Stephan Lichtsteiner’s error. The midfielder was subbed in the second half as Alex Iwobi came in his place raising many questions for the change.

“It was tactical. It’s the same every match,” said Emery when asked about his decision to sub Ozil.

“Sometimes I change it tactically when I need something to change.”

I am a little disappointed. I think the first half was key in the match. We started winning and had another two chances, and they saved from Aubameyang. We didn’t concede many chances for them but they drew level. Second half we could not impose our game plan. We did not make more clear chances to win the match.”

“It is our process, we are leaving one process with the team. We can continue in our way with this point. It would be better if we won but I think the team worked well.”

Arsenal’s next assignment will be away to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday 29th.

during the Premier League match between Arsenal FC and Leicester City at Emirates Stadium on October 22, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.
