On Tuesday a magistrate’s court in Eldoret granted another divorce to the 85-year-old farmer. The commercial farmer is now free to part ways with his third wife, Naomi Jeptoo Kibor, after the court found their marriage to have irretrievably broken down.
The magistrate also found that the two parties were unwilling to resolve their differences amicably. Kibor divorced his second wife Josphine Jepkoech in October last year. His first wife died. Kibor and Naomi had been married for 43 years.
“By keeping them together in the circumstances, is to play with legal form in a manner that is completely contrary to the needs of real life and such false unity could only serve to further oppress the plaintiff which is not rewarding relationship,”
While many may celebrate decades of enduring the nagging and the inability of the man to pick up his dirty socks, Kibor is having none of that.
They say the third time’s the charm, not for Kibor whose first wife died. He tried the second time with Josephine Jepkoech, but that boat sunk in October last year.
The court recently allowed him to part ways with his third wife. Newlyweds may look at Kibor with disdain. Women rights campaigners cringe at the thought of throwing away 43 years together but Kibor has made up his mind.
What’s more, he believes he will now add some weight.
