Mourinho’s withering one-word response on United progress

Is he always in a Mood’? Jose Mourinho believes Manchester United are “far” from being a side cast in his image.Mourinho was appointed United manager in summer 2016, signing a three-year contract.

He penned a one-year extension in January, keeping him with the club until 2020. But he still believes that United are nowhere near matching the sort of standard he demands, despite being two-and-a-half years into his tenure.

The Portuguese will lead his sixth-placed United side into battle against Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday, having spent much of his Friday press conference praising his bitter rivals for their investment.

It was put to him that Liverpool seem like a team with a new image, and he was then asked how far away United are from being in his own image.

“Far,” was his simple response.

Asked for a reason behind that, he replied: “The reasons I was telling him, it’s not just about spending.”

Mourinho also explained that he was “going to try” and get a result at Anfield.

“I always try and I want to play a team that is capable to be with me on that desire and on that ambition and on that confidence.

“We know that we are going to play against the leader, against a team on a high, but we have our qualities, we have our potential and even with the problems we have and the doubts in terms of team choice, in tactics, approach, philosophy, we have doubts about everything but we are going to arrive with the players we have available and are going to have a team capable of going there and fight for the victory.”
