Day time alcoblow makes come back on the roads to nab drunk drivers

The long awaited Christmas holiday is finally here. Its a joyful period that some times turns into tragedy as a result of recklessness  driving under the influence after indulging with friends.

Matiangi’ has been partnering up with the National Transport and Safety Authority to bring back the old tough Michuki rules since the Fort Tenan accident that drew the line of patience in losing life on the Kenyan roads.

Dennis Itumbi has recently taken to twitter to also reveal that daytime alcoblow tests have kicked off today to deal with drunk driving during this festive season.

Last year three judges had ruled out the use of alcoblow to curb drinking cited the following reasons as to why they outlawed the alcoblow.

First and foremost Justice Fatuma Sache, GBM Kariuki, and Festus Anzangala while delivering their ruling on a Friday said that the law that introduced the alcoblow was illegal because it violated the Traffic Act.

Secondly, the three judges said that most motorists have different capacity to which they drink alcohol and get intoxicated. So each and every motorist must be faulted according to his intoxication capacity which the police didn’t have.

Thirdly the Judges said that the ordinary Kenyan was not consulted at the introduction of the device. That is it was never subjected to public participation.

On the other hand, some motorist blamed the police for using the device to extort money from motorist. The introduction of the breathalyser was in one way encouraging corruption among police officers.
