In a speech that caused a buzz on social media, Sonko adopted the American twang where the letter ‘t’ usually comes off being pronounced as an ‘r’.

In his well-written speech, the Nairobi Governor addressed himself a variety of issues including the city’s GDP and its contribution to the growth and development of the nation.

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Wednesday taunted his Nairobi counterpart Mike Sonko over his recent address that delivered with an American accent.

Thanking Sonko for successfully hosting the 1st ever global Sustainable Blue Economy Conference(SBEC) at KICC, Joho thanked him for the hospitality in “Nairobi Cirrrry (City)”.

“Governor 0047, thank you for welcoming us in your cirry (Sic),” Joho stated as the audience burst out in laughter.

Dunia mzima ilijua if Sonko decides to switch the other way… Anasema this is the headquarra… (The whole world now knows that if Sonko decides to switch his accent, he can pronounce ‘headquarter’ as headquarra),” he added.
