Aren’t the Obama’s the couple goals? There’s nothing to not love about the Michelle and Barack Obama love story. In her memoir, Michelle reveals how she almost missed an opportunity of a life time, being the First Lady of the United States.

In her new Memoir, Michelle says that she found future-husband Barack ‘refreshing, unconventional and weirdly elegant’ when she saw him for the first time but did not for one moment think about him as someone she would want to date.

“Despite my resistance to the hype that had preceded him, I found myself admiring Barack for both his self-assuredness and his earnest demeanour. He was refreshing, unconventional, and weirdly elegant,” Michelle says about what she felt when she saw Barack for the first time at the law firm.

“Not once, though, did I think about him as someone I’d want to date. For one thing, I was his mentor at the firm. I’d also recently sworn off dating altogether, too consumed with work to put any effort into it,” she added.

I bet she’s now forever grateful to God that she said yes! Michelle also revealed how Barack Obama turned up late when he went to meet her working as her associate at a Chicago law firm Sidley & Austin in 1989.

And finally, appallingly, at the end of lunch that day, Barack lit a cigarette, “which would have been enough to snuff any interest, if I’d had any to begin with” she said.

According to her, Barack smoked the way her parents did; after meals, walking down a city block, or when he was feeling anxious which was something she didn’t like.

“Smoking was one topic where Barack’s logic seemed to leave him altogether,” she says.

One afternoon, after having a meal, Obama alluded to the idea that they should go out. However, Michelle quickly declined saying that she doesn’t date and she was his advisor.

“Like that counts for anything. You’re not my boss,” he said. “And you’re pretty cute,” Obama responded laughingly.

In the book, Michelle also describes the early years of her marriage with Barack and how she struggled to balance her work and family with her husband’s fast-moving political career. She also sheds light about their private debate over whether Barack should make a run for the presidency and her subsequent role as a popular but often criticised figure during his campaign.

Michelle’s memoir “Becoming” published by Penguin Random House imprint Viking has already sold 1.4 million copies in the first week of it’s release.

Just imagine what would have happened has Michelle ignored Obama. Do you think Michelle would have missed out on being First Lady or would have Obama never become President?
