They say ignorance is a killer disease but in Kenyan politics ignorance is a penalty disease that can be fined heavily.

In case scenario,MCAs in Siaya have slapped a Sh200,000 fine on the county Finance executive Joseph Warega for failing to honour summonses.

The Finance Committee recommended Warega’s impeachment after he pays the fine in accordance with the assembly’ standing order number 73.

On Wednesday, the committee’s vice chair Samuel Siguru tabled a report on Warega’s conduct in the assembly.

The report states that he has never honoured the assembly’s summonses since he took over the docket.

Members want Warega to clarify some audit queries, following claims of mismanagement.

To curb the blatant disrespect of the House summonses, MCAs recommended that police be involved.

While debating the report by the Powers and Privileges Committee and that of Finance Committee, MCAs said stern action should be taken against Warega.

Central Alego MCA Leonard Oriaro said the fine was lenient.

Sigomere MCA Eric Odawa said it was wrong for Warega to disrespect the assembly.

“We are not going to spare him. He is not fit to hold the position. We will impeach him,” he said.

Nominated MCA Bernard Adalah said Warega is the cause of problems in the county because there is a delay in implementing projects.

Political parties in Kenya have been seen suspending their members and impeaching others who they claim are breaking party rules and engaging in misconduct activities that they will not condone.

Do you think the fine on Warega was okay as well as does he deserve to be impeached?
