Has Raila meade an immense contribution to the society?
According to Jaramogi university ,Raila Odinga will on December 14, 2018 be respected with an honorary degree from the making it his fourth honorary degree.
In an advert placed in the MyGov pages on Tuesday that Raila, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University said that Mr. Odinga will receive the honorary degree in recognition of his immense contribution to the society.
The university said that Raila has promoted the infrastructure industry, settlement, sciences and environmental conservation.
“The university charter believes Raila ascribes to the values of the learning institution and has rendered distinguished service in the advancement of any branch of learning or service to humanity,” said the University’s Vice Chancellor Stephen Agong’.
The ODM leader was last month appointed High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa. The role will see Raila Odinga work to support and strengthen AU’s departments and those of the Planning and Coordinating Agency of New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).
Announcing his appointment, the AU said that Raila brings with him a rich political experience and strong commitment to the ideals of Pan-Africanism and African integration, as well as a deep knowledge of infrastructure development.
“Raila will pay particular attention to the missing links along the transnational highway corridors identified as part of the Trans-African Highways Network, with a view to facilitating their development and modernization,” said Commission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat.
Vice Chancellor Agong’ said that Raila has met requirements following his immense contribution towards public service, leadership and the expansion of the democratic space in Kenya and the region.
“The University Senate has therefore determined that the Right Honourable Odinga is worthy of the conferment of Honorary Degree of Doctor of Sciences (Honoris Causa),” the advert said.
Doctor of Science usually abbreviated Sc.D., D.Sc., S.D., or D.S., is an academic research degree awarded in a number of countries throughout the world. In some countries, “Doctor of Science” is the title used for the standard doctorate in the sciences; elsewhere the Sc.D. is a “higher doctorate” awarded in recognition of a substantial and sustained contribution to scientific knowledge beyond that required for a PhD. It may also be awarded as an honorary degree.
