Politicians in Kenya have been known to trust some of their most delicate political strategies with their family members who owe them utmost loyalty.
For instance, President Uhuru Kenyatta has since 2013 employed his nephew as his personal secretary while ODM Leader Raila Odinga has been known to accompany his daughter Winnie to the most delicate political meetings, as was the case during the famous handshake deal.
However, it is not always the case that relatives have a common political agenda.
In Deputy President William Ruto’s camp, Soy MP Caleb Kositany has emerged as one of the DP’s ardent supporters and strategists.
Kositany is described as a voice of reason in Ruto’s camp and is often consulted before the DP makes political moves.
The soft-spoken MP is part of Ruto’s think-tank that was recently formed to strategise on the best approach that the DP will take if and when the referendum takes place.
Other members include Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Nandi Senator Simon Cherargei.
Interestingly, Kositany is a brother-in-law to Baringo Senator Gideon Moi – who also happens to Ruto’s nemesis when it comes to the politics of 2022.
Caleb is the younger brother of the late Stephen Kositany, who was married to Gideon’s elder sister, Jennifer.
Stephen died in 1994 in a road accident.
