Meet the top cream in KCPE this year.

 

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Examination results are officially out today with Education CS Amina Mohammed officially releasing the results at the Star of the Sea Primary School in Mombasa.

According to the Education CS, the overall performance of candidates has improved this year compared to last year. This year the top candidate scored 453 marks with 12,273 scoring above 400 marks.

Olive Mwea is among the top student who scored 453 marks. She was student at Riara which also excelled in the just relesed KCPE exams. Olive Mwea is expecting to be her pharmacists after she is through with school.

The other top candidate was Rawlings Odhiambo from Kakamega Hill school. They both expressed their interests to continue exemplary performance even when they join higher levels of learning.

Candidates who scored between 301- 400 marks were 228,414 which is higher than what was witnessed back in 2017.

Those who scored between 201- 300 marks were 574,927 while those who scored 101-200 were 234,573.

Candidates that scored between 0-100 were 2,177.

Girls performed better than boys in English, Kiswahili and Kenya sign language during the 2018 KCPE exam. Boys performed better in Mathematics and science, social and religious studies.

Twenty-three out of 47 counties registered more girl candidates.

“Several CSs went around the country to ensure that the exams are done in a credible way. I am proud that we have stumped out dishonesty,” Amina said.

The issue of teenage pregnancy took centre stage during the release of results.

“The law is clear on defilement and no one is above the law. We are dealing with a complex issue and we will work with all relevant government agencies to effect the urgent changes that are required,”she said.

Holiday tuition is still banned

The ministry has also mapped out private schools that have been opening several exam centres.

The Form one selection exercise will be launched on Monday.

The selection will only be done once unlike before when selection was done twice.

Amina said that there will be 100 per cent transition to secondary school.
