Picture this! It is 2022. We have just held an election. William Ruto is the new President elect. But guess who is the Deputy President? Okoth Obado. Yes, I know you’re surprised. I am surprised as well but this is Kenya and anything can happen.
After his release on Friday, Obado was received by song and dance in Kibra. The residents welcomed his release like a messiah.
Before last month, nobody in Kibera would have bothered about Obado. But the publicity surrounding his recent arrest has elevated him to grounds that no other governor can brag about.
The governor was arrested in dramatic fashion on Wednesday at the Hilton Hotel where he was attending a meeting chaired by Deputy President William Ruto.
He was then charged with illegal possession of firearms. The guns were found in his Nairobi and Migori Homes after a raid by EACC. The detectives found eight guns which led to his arrest.
But some people have accused the ODM party leadership for trying to frustrate Obado, after his dalliance with DP William Ruto.
Ruto was in Nyanza last weekend, and the two arrested a series of events together, something that didn’t go down well with his party.
But his arrest could spell the beginning of good things to come. After all, what can’t kill you, only makes you stronger. And if what happened in Kibra is anything to go by, then Obado is getting stronger day by day.
ODM will do anything possible to ensure Ruto does not become President, but what will happen if Ruto chooses Obado as his running mate, rallying all Luos behind him?
Ruto was also in ODM, he was kicked out of the party unceremoniously after he worked so hard to make Raila President. Obado has also fallen out with the party. The two can campaign on the basis that they were kicked out of the party.
It may work wonders.
