I always believe that police suffer from inferiority complex especially when it comes to dealing with university students.

For a long time, the Kenyan education has been designed in a way that dunderheads who score D+ in KCSE are the ones that join the police force while the creme de la creme in the academic field go to university to study for lucrative career courses.

Now what happens when the dunderhead is given a gun to come and quash chaos in the universities? The police choose exert revenge on the students whose crime was because they were academically superipor than their miserable lives.

It is also a way of showing that despite my dwarfness in class, I can still beat you up like a burukenge. And there is nothing you can do about it.

Some videos are trending online of police in Maseno University brutalizing and molesting students on Sunday.

The mediocre police are seen forcing some students to crawl on a murram road to a waiting police car. That’s exactly what you get, when the police believe this is a chance to show just how mighty they can be especially on their polished Kenyans.

The Maseno University students went on rampage after their leaders were arrested early on Sunday. The leaders had gone to complain about the rising rates of insecurity in the neighborhood allegedly orchestrated by locals.

Ironically, they were locked up. Imagine going to report a crime and then you’re locked up instead of being assisted.

Other videos showed the officer storming hostels to eject the rioting students. Gunshots are heard in the recording.

The videos have elicited different emotions online especially by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who led severeal demonstrations during his time as Chair of SONU.

Is it right for police to use excessive force on students?
