Arsene Wenger sends a warning to Arsenal

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has warned the North London club that Aaron Ramsey is in a “strong position” as the contract dispute between the Gunners and the Welshman continues.

Midfielder Ramsey is out of contract at the end of the season at the Emirates and looks set to leave as a free agent next summer. Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with swoops for the former Cardiff man while Juventus are reportedly also interested.

Mesut Ozil used Alexis Sanchez’s departure to broker fresh terms in north London and Wenger believes Ramsey is in a similar position of strength.

When asked if he would give Ramsey a new deal, the Frenchman said: “We tried that before and it still can happen.”

“I don’t really know what’s happening at Arsenal. Sure, Aaron Ramsey is in a strong position now and he will use this position. But I don’t know how far Arsenal will go in terms of giving him a huge contract. These things were once my responsibility, but not anymore. I’m happy about that.”

Both parties believed they were close to striking a deal before Arsenal unexpectedly withdrew the offer.
