Jose Mourinho has revealed that Paul Pogba will continue to take penalties for Manchester United despite his miss on Sunday.

Romelu Lukaku’s double eased the pressure on Mourinho as Manchester United won 2-0 at Burnley.
Lukaku struck in the 27th and 44th minutes before Paul Pogba’s penalty midway through the second period, after Rashford had been fouled by Aaron Lennon, was saved by Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart.

“I never blame a player for missing penalties,” Mourinho said. “I blame the ones who refuse to go up there. Paul’s scored some good ones for us.”

Asked if he would take the next spot kick for United, Mourinho replied: “If he wants, yes.”

After Pogba scored his penalty against Leicester in the first game of the season, the Portuguese said: “The thinking is he is a very good penalty taker and likes the responsibility of it and he is first choice.

“Of course, we have second or third choices in case [the player is] not confident or some reason doesn’t want to take.

“But he was ready and of course he trained lots of penalties during the World Cup because it’s something, in a competition like that, every player trains a lot and he was very confident.”
