Salah in Line to Win Prestigious Award

Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah and Luka Modric have made the three-man shortlist for the 2017/8 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award.

The winner of the award will be named at the UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on Thursday 30th August, alongside the winner of UEFA Women’s Player of the Year award and the Champions League positional award winners.

The final three-man shortlist is as follows:

Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid/Juventus and Portugal)

The Portuguese talisman ended the season as a UEFA Champions League winner for a record fifth time, as well as being the tournament’s top scorer for the sixth season in a row, scoring 15 goals in 13 games.

In all competitions, Ronaldo netted 44 goals in 44 games, showing why many regard him as the greatest player in the world.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool and Egypt)

The Egyptian winger broke a variety of records in an outstanding season with Liverpool, also scoring 44 goals in all competitions.

Salah was also key in the ‘Reds’ reaching the Champions League final last season, despite suffering an injury against Real Madrid in the match itself.

Luka Modric (Real Madrid and Croatia)

The midfielder was instrumental in Croatia’s run to theWorld Cup final and took home the Golden Ball for the tournament.

With Real Madrid, Modric also took home the UEFA Champions League and was impressive throughout the year.

Also in the top ten, although missing out on the shortlist, were:

4) Antoine Griezmann (Atletico and France) – 72 points

5) Lionel Messi (Barcelona and Argentina) – 55 points

6) Kylian Mbappe (PSG and France) – 43 points

7) Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City and Belgium) – 28 points

8) Raphael Varane (Real Madrid and France) – 23 points

9) Eden Hazard (Chelsea and Belgium) – 15 points

10) Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid and Spain) – 12 points
