Famous politician spends millions on his traditional wedding

Flamboyant and philanthropic human rights activist Brian Weke and his wife to be  Juliana held a glamorous traditional marriage ceremony over the last weekend a ceremony that costed a whopping Sh2.7 million.

Brian Weke received blessing from his in laws to wed his lover of seven years, in a closely guarded relationship that had many guessing when the two would solemnise the affair.

It was a show of might as the two families that have political leanings parade hundreds of their friends, most of whom were from political and showbiz class with solo artists and bands taking turns on stage as negotiations went on.

The compound was filled with more than 300 cars and PSV busses, the media was spoiled for choice when the action started shortly after 1 am when the visitors arrived from Nairobi.

Juliana was in a classy flowing dress christened with golden beads that matched her jewellery.

According to Brian, “This is such a big honour. I have been looking forward to this day and I thank God that it has happened at long last.”

The party moved from his in-laws’ residence to Club 7D in Nakuru, with plenty of song, dance and drinks going till late.

Many local artistes, including Jalang’o and actor Daniel Weke, entertained the crowds.

A number of former beauty queens also graced the occasion.

Brian comes from a humble background, he was born in Jerusalem, Eastlands in 1980 to a 16-year-old mother. His mother  later left her under the care of his grandparents, Daniel and Lucia Weke. Unfortunately, Daniel, a former clerk at Nairobi City Council died in 1982, just two years after he was  born Lucia did menial jobs at Safi Industries, which baked bread, but the money she got was little and could not sustain brian and the rest of the family.

When he joined Dr. Livingstone Primary School, life became harder. he went to school in tattered clothes with tens of patches and most of the time l was out of school for lack of fees. Not until in Class Seven, he joined matatu industry as a tout for matatus plying route 23 between town and Outering Estate to assist my grandmother settle bills  he made between Sh100 and Sh150 in a day (on weekends and evenings after school).

He once admitted that the controversial member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo is indeed his auntie.This came after he was accused of being more than friends with her .

Brian Weke, who has unsuccessfully vied for a Parliamentary seat twice has taken a break from politics until his four-year contract with IED Kenya is over.

Weke first vied during the Kamukunji Constituency by-election in 2011 but was defeated by PNU’s Yusuf Hassan. The man who claims he knows most of his voters by name, then tried his luck at Embakasi West MP on an ODM ticket but lost by a close call to George Theuri.

His current job does not allow him to have any political affiliations as part of his job description requires mobilising young people and educating them on the importance of involvement during elections.

This January the children’s rights activist won a case against President Uhuru Kenyatta, which saw the High Court order him to submit names of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) nominees to Parliament within 21 days.
