Revealed why Degea has rejected other clubs

Ander Herrera has revealed that David De Gea is preferring a stay at Old Trafford because of the love of fans.

The Spaniard custodian has been a subject of numerous links to Real Madrid and he was close to a move in 2015 but the last minute glitch meant the transfer failed. Madrid goalkeeping situation has been dominating the headlines and it is Thibaut Courtois of Chelsea that is linked to now.

“I remember that difficult summer when everyone was talking about Real Madrid and he played the first game at Old Trafford and everyone was singing his name and he told me ‘this is amazing, they are the best. He can be very calm but he’s the best. He will show it again. He’s the best keeper I’ve ever seen in my life and he is with us so we have more chances to win titles.” said Herrera.

De Gea joined United in 2012 from Atletico Madrid to replace the outgoing Dutch legend Edwin van Der Sar. He has established himself as part of an integral player for Jose Mourinho. Herrea believes that de Gea will silence his critics, especially after a disappointing World Cup campaign.

“He is so, so strong. I remember when I was in Spain and he signed for the club. The first couple of months were hard for him and he became the best goalkeeper in the world in the next four years so I am very relaxed about him. We are very lucky to have him because he is the best in the world. I don’t care what the critics say.” the midfielder said.

“He is the best goalkeeper in the world, by far, and he will show it again. When you are the best goalkeeper in the world and you don’t make those amazing saves, everyone is going to talk. When I don’t play very well, I don’t get that criticism because I am not one of the best in the world, but he is, so it’s normal and he will cope with it.” the Spaniard added.

Degea was Born in Madrid, De Gea began his career aged 13 with Atlético Madrid and rose through the academy system at the club before making his senior debut in 2009. After being made Atlético’s first-choice goalkeeper, he helped the team win both the UEFA Europa Leagueand the UEFA Super Cup in 2010. His performances attracted the attention of Manchester United, which he joined in June 2011 for £18.9 million, a British record for a goalkeeper at the time.

Since joining United, De Gea has made over 300 appearances and won a Premier League title, an FA Cup, a League Cup, three Community Shields and the UEFA Europa League. For three consecutive seasons from 2013–14 to 2015–16, he was elected as United’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year, the first player in the award’s history to win on three successive occasions.

De Gea was the captain for the Spain under-21 national team that won the European Championship in 2011 and 2013, and also competed in the 2012 Olympics. He made his debut for the senior team in 2014 and was selected for that year’s World Cup. He was tipped by many to become the successor to Iker Casillas as Spain’s long-term goalkeeper
