Man arrested for raping and killing a student

A man in Kisumu has been arrested for raping and killing a 20-year-old university student and injuring her boyfriend.

The victim’s boyfriend is believed to be the suspect’s half-brother and the three  are believed to have been living in the same house at Lolwe Estate.

According to reports, the police suspect that the arrested man stabbed his half-brother shortly after killing the girlfriend.

In a statement the Kisumu Central OCPD Meshack Kiptum said,  “The lady was the half-brother’s girlfriend. Reports indicate that he raped her before stabbing her several times in the chest, head and eyes. When his brother, who had stepped out, returned to the house, he was also stabbed, what triggered the attack was not immediately established.

Police have also said that the suspect later dumped the body of the woman in a car belonging to his injured brother, the boyfriend was  fighting for his life at a Kisumu hospital.

Neighbours reported hearing commotions from the suspect’s house on Tuesday night, but say they were unable to intervene.

This comes just a few days after the year old  24-year-old Ruth Kamande woman was found guilty for killing her boyfriend was sentenced to death.

Ruth Wanjiku Kamande happens to have  deliberately stabbed Farid Mohammed 25 times in the chest leaving him to die.

On Thursday Justice Lesiit sentenced her to death siting that young people should know it is not cool to kill your boyfriend or girlfriend, instead it is cool to walk away from such a relationship when it breaks down.

Ruth murdered her boyfriend using a kitchen knife in September 2015 following a domestic quarrel that she claimed that her boyfriend was cheating.

She later claimed that she was raped a claim that was proven as a lie.

In mitigation last week, Ruth told the court she has reformed since staying in remanded two years and nine months ago, and that she is remorseful.

During sentencing, Justice Lesiit dismissed claims that she acted in self defence.

She said the stab wounds were not consistent with her allegations that her former boyfriend had pinned her down as they fought, observing that the wounds were inflicted at intervals and not by a person in a lying position.

The night before the incident, the court heard that she found his old love letters and questioned Farid why he was still holding onto them.

He allegedly ignored her and went to sleep only for her to rekindle the conversation the following morning.

When neighbours tried to respond to his distress call, they found the door was locked.
