Crystal Palace eyeing move for Uruguay defender

Crystal Palace are interested in signing Uruguay and Genoa’s, Diego Laxalt. However, Palace may face some serious competition for Laxalt from the likes of Benfica, Galatasaray, Fiorentina, Rome and Lazio.  Laxalt began his career in Uruguay with Defensor Sporting Club for whom he played 15 games before moving to Inter Milan in 2013 for a fee in the region of £2.07 million. However, Laxalt would never play a senior game for Inter Milan and instead was sent out on loan to the likes of Bolonga and Empoli during which time Laxalt would play 22 games, in which he would score three and assist one.

The Uruguayan would eventually move to Genoa on a permanent deal in 2016 for a fee of around £5.22 million. Laxalt has since gone on to play 117 games for Genoa, in which time he has scored eight and assisted 12. He is naturally a left-back but as Laxalt proved for Uruguay at the World Cup, he is more than capable of doing an excellent job at left-back.  The 2017/18 season for Crystal Palace was very much up and down. They started the season by picking up zero points from their first seven league games. During those seven games, Palace would also fail to score a single goal, a new league record.

However, once Roy Hodgson took over Palace’s form dramatically improved, Hodgson picked up a 2-1 win vs Chelsea in his first game in charge of Palace. From there, Palace grew in confidence and would finish the 2017/18 season in 11th place, not bad considering they lost their first seven games and were clear favourites to go down. Now, however, Palace are keen to strengthen their squad this summer in order to make sure they have a much better start to their 2018/19 campaign.
