Courtois accuses France of playing ‘anti-football’

Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois accused France of playing ‘anti-football’ as Belgium’s hopes of winning the World Cup ended in Moscow. Samuel Umtiti scored the only goal as Didier Deschamps’ men progressed to the final, where they’ll play one of Croatia or England. Belgium had 64% possession but couldn’t find a way past Hugo Lloris and in truth failed to create a chance of note in the final moments.

France sat back after Umtiti’s opener and Courtois accused Les Bleus of playing ‘anti-football’. ‘It’s just an anti-football team,’ said Courtois. ‘Their striker plays 30 metres from his own goal. ‘France heads a corner and does nothing more than defend,” he said. ‘I would have preferred to have lost in the quarter-finals to Brazil, at least that was a team that wanted to play football.’
