Schmeichel branded most proud father for his reaction to son Kasper’s World Cup save

The Old Trafford icon was in the stands at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium for Denmark’s World Cup clash against Croatia. And the 54-year-old had good reasons to be there as his son, Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel, was between the posts. The Danes pushed Croatia all the way before missing out on penalties – despite the 31-year-old saving three spot kicks.But it was the reaction of the former Red Devil that really grabbed the attention.

With just seconds left in the latter stages of extra time, it looked like Danish hearts would be broken as Ante Rebic was brought down in the box by Martin Jorgensen.Real Madrid star Luka Modric stepped up to take the kick with the eyes of the world watching on. But the younger Schmeichel kept his country’s hopes alive with a stunning save to his left. And his dad was overcome with pride and joy, jumping out of his seat while punching the air.
