Has Neymar proven himself where Ronaldo and Messi failed?

Brazil are on track to win their sixth World Cup title after they qualified for the quarter finals of the competition with a dominant display against Mexico on Monday. The Samba Boys, like most big teams in this year’s competition struggled to get through their group games with some top players struggling for form.

The above is true with the likes of Messi and Ronaldo (though Ronaldo took the World Cup by storm in the first game against Spain with three goals) Neymar also had his down moments particularly in the first two games, however, the PSG star cannot be accused of not trying to make things happen. Neymar has scored six goals from 38 shots in World Cups – it took Lionel Messi 67 shots and Cristiano Ronaldo 74 shots to score as many.

Also, like Neymar, Ronaldo and Messi are the icons of their various teams, they are expected to lead their teams to glory, their various teams are built around these talented stars, however, unlike Neymar, Ronaldo and Messi are back home after failing to help their sides get through the round of 16.  On this alone, Neymar has succeeded where the other two failed, and if the Brazilian succeed in leading his side to the final and clinching the ultimate prize, he would have achieved something the other two couldn’t in their long and productive careers, a situation that could eventually elevate him higher than his compatriot in the eyes of history.

The above however begs the question, if Neymar wins the World Cup with Brazil, will history remember his as a better footballer than  Ronaldo and Messi?
